The Rt Hon The Lord Tyler CBE was the UK’s youngest County Councillor when first elected as a Liberal in 1964. He twice sat as a Liberal and Liberal Democrat MP in his native West Country, and has retained an active interest in agricultural, food and rural economy issues. He stood for the European Parliament, harvesting the largest vote of all LibDems that year, despite not being elected. He has held many offices in the parliamentary LibDems and in the party. He has been national Liberal Party Chairman and retired from the Commons to become a working Peer in 2005. Paul is currently co-chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party Committee on Constitutional and Political Reform. In the present Parliament he has worked with allies in all Parties, and in both Houses, to advance the cause of political reform and to resist the efforts of No 10 to undermine the Constitution.
