The Tories plan to sell off many of Canterbury’s city centre car parks. When the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is over, our city centre businesses will need all the support which we can give them. Selling off 439 city centre parking spaces will be another body blow to them and to our local economy. It will also make life even more difficult for city centre residents to park their cars.

Instead, we believe that many more charging points for electric cars should be installed in our car parks and discounts on parking charges should be reduced for these cars to encourage people to ‘go electric’. This will help reduce air pollution in and around Canterbury.

Car parks due for closure include Rosemary Lane, Ivy Lane, the frontage of Longport.

As many of you will know, your Lib Dem councillors have been campaigning against the plans to close these car parks since they were first drawn up.
